Chapter 14

Back at the shop, it was business as usual. A revolving door of clients, hood gossip and boosters trying to sell a little bit of everything to anyone who would take half a second to listen to their sales pitch. Lauren was doing box braids in a female customer’s hair and Radee was looking at the latest DVD selection the neighborhood booster Junior had tucked inside his North Face book bag while the other patrons talked amongst themselves. Jay Z boasted about ‘Made in America’ on the stereo system providing the perfect soundtrack for this hood movie.

“I’m telling you, Rah you gotta check out this new Kevin Hart DVD, man. The nigga is a fucking trip,” Junior bragged while holding the DVD in his hand.

“Aiite man, how much you want for it?” Rah asked digging in his pants pocket for some money.

“Well, I normally charge fifteen bucks for it but for you, Rah, I’mma let it go for ten cuz you always take care of me.” Junior smiled, just happy that he was getting any money at all. Just as Radee handed Junior a crisp ten dollar bill and Junior gave him the movie box, Justice walked in the shop looking like he had come into some money and used it to turn his swagger all the way up. He donned a royal blue Sean John jogging suit on his body and a pair of fresh out the box all white Nikes rested on his feet. A diamond stud earring gleamed in his left ear as he walked straight up to Radee with a platinum plated Jesus piece resting on his chest.

“Ay, Rah, you got me, bruh?” he asked as he walked right up to Radee. Radee looked at Justice in utter disgust as he leaned close to Justice’s ear so no one else could hear what he was about to say. Junior knew of the animosity between Radee and Justice so he quickly gathered up his supplies and made his way to the front of the shop. He had made his sale and was about to get as far away as possible from the shit that was about to unfold.

“Nigga, you better hope I don’t slit your fucking throat with those clippers I got sitting over there. I know you put your hands on my cousin and the only reason you’re still breathing is because she asked me not to kill you. You put your hands on her because you know you could never hold your own and go up against a real man. It’s not her fault you can’t get your shit together and you failed at playing the game. She rocked with you regardless and you gave her your natural black ass to kiss, man. That’s foul.” Radee said through clenched teeth while disgustedly looking Justice up and down. “Matter of fact, come on I got you.” He scoffed with hatred.

Radee walked over to his station and left Justice standing in the middle of the floor with fire coming from his ears.
